Mundy wins Post 1 seat in Flowery Branch; Beatty, Kriews face run-off

FLOWERY BRANCH — One vacant city council post in Flowery Branch was filled by a special election Tuesday, but there will be a run-off for another.

Chris Mundy garnered 146 votes to Michael Justice's 53 votes to win the Post 1 seat left vacant by the resignation of Damon Gibbs.

The Post 5 seat, vacated by Tara Richards, will remain empty until a July 14 run-off between Monica Beatty and Nicole Kriews. They were the top vote-getters from a field of four candidates. The vote for that post was split as follows: 

Monica Beatty 76 votes 
Alan Davenport 53 votes 
Ed Edwards 13 votes 
Nicole Kriews 64 votes 

According to City Clerk Melissa McCain, Flowery Branch has a total of 3,310 active voters and 778 inactive voters for a total of 4,088 eligible voters.
