CUMMING — Charles Welch, Jr. was the top voter-getter among a slate of four candidates running for a vacant city council post in Cumming.
Welch garnered about 30-percent of the vote in Tuesday's special election, but there will be no run-off because the city of Cumming operates under a plurality form of voting.
Welch fills a post vacated by the resignation of longtime city councilman Rupert Sexton.
A total of 319 voters cast ballots in Tuesday's special election. Welch received 117 votes, Linda Ledbetter received 98 votes and Roger L. Crow and Julie Tressler each received 88 votes in the balloting.
