After Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway, Kurt Busch was singing in the rain.
Busch moved into the lead for the final time on lap 133 of Sunday’s 200 lap race. Five laps later, the skies opened up, pouring rain over the 2 mile speedway, leading race officials to call the event some 62 laps ahead of its scheduled distance.
That gave Busch his second Sprint Cup Series victory of the season. The race had been stopped three times previously under red flag conditions due to rain.
Afterwards, we heard from Busch on the win, along with his car owner Gene Haas. Second place finisher Dale Earnhardt, Jr. also spoke to the media, as did third place finisher Martin Truex, Jr.
On Saturday, Kyle Busch made the most of his return to the NASCAR Xfinity Series. After leaders Joey Logano and Kevin Harvick tangled, allowing Chase Elliott to slip past and into the lead, Busch chased down Elliott over the closing laps. Busch charged past Elliott with three laps to go, and went on to score the win.
The victory came in Busch’s first race back in the Xfinity Series since being injured in the series season opener at Daytona International Speedway in February.
Afterwards, Busch spoke about the victory, while Elliott, of Dawsonville, talked about his disappointment in coming up short in his shot for his first win of the season. We also heard from third place finisher Kyle Larson.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series has the weekend off, but the Xfinity Series will be in action at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Ill. on Saturday night. WDUN will have live coverage of the race weekend.
