CEDARTOWN, Ga. (AP) A young mother has died and her 1-year-old son is in critical condition after a tree limb fell on the pair as they sat on a bench in the playground area of Peek Park in Cedartown.
The Rome News-Tribune reports the limb fell on 16-year-old Latrena Drayton and her son, Jeremiah Drayton, on Friday. Drayton died from her injuries. Jeremiah was airlifted to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite for treatment where he was listed in critical condition Saturday.
Polk County Coroner Tony Brazier says there was no immediate cause as to why the tree branch broke.
Drayton was a student at Cedartown High School.
