CLEVELAND — White County Commissioners will hold the line again next year on millage.
The White County Board of Commissioners Monday approved a resolution accepting the proposed 2016 Fiscal Year county budget, which calls for $15,867,394 in expenditures.
The budget approval followed the second required public hearing.
County Manager Mike Melton said the new budget will allow the county to retain three months of fund balance and keep the county’s portion of the tax millage rate the same at 9.168 mills.
County Commission Chairman Travis Turner said this budget represents a decrease of more than $96,000, but noted even with the decrease the county has been able to do more.
"This also includes the funding - we now have a 24-hour, 7-day-a-week fire department," Turner said. "So we saw a decrease in the general fund by $96,000, yet we were able to squeeze harder, do a little bit more and we now have fire coverage 24 hours a day, seven days a week in our community."
This is the seventh consecutive year the county has been able to keep the tax millage rate the same or lower.
Commissioners will officially approve the county millage rate, in a special called meeting, on July 31.
