GAINESVILLE — A 7-year-old Hall County boy was seriously injured when he apparently darted in front of a car after getting a treat from an ice cream truck.
Georgia State Patrol Sgt. George Harper said the accident happened on Floyd Road in east Hall County around 7:25 p.m. Sunday.
"Vehicle 1 was traveling south on Floyd Road; vehicle 2, which was the ice cream truck, was facing south and stopped in the southbound lane of Floyd Road," said Harper. "The pedestrian, which was a child, was on the left side of the van traveling east across Floyd Road."
Harper said as the little boy walked around the van and out into the street, Vehicle 1 crossed over a double yellow line to pass the ice cream truck and struck the child.
Harper said the child, identified as Victor Bonilla, suffered a serious injury to his chest and was airlifted to Scottish Rite Hospital. An update on the child's condition was not available.
The names of the drivers of the two vehicles involved were not released. Harper said the investigation continues; he did not indicate what charges might be filed in the case.
