SUWANEE — The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office released the names of the people involved in a shooting that claimed four lives on Old Atlanta Road Wednesday morning.

Rebecca Manning, 37, of Cumming was located on scene suffering from gunshot wounds. She was transported to an area hospital where she died as a result of her injuries, according to the sheriff's office.

Her two sons, Jared Smith, 8, and Jacob Smith, 9, were found deceased inside the residence from apparent gunshot wounds.

Rebecca Manning’s father, Jerry Manning, 75, was transported to an area hospital and was being treated for multiple gunshot wounds. Deputies listed his condition as critical.

Authorities identified the suspected shooter as Matthew Fields, 32, husband of Rebecca Manning.  He was found deceased in the residence from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

"As the investigation goes on, of course, we hope to find some type of motive," said Forsyth County Sheriff Duane Piper during a morning press conference. "There is no reason that any of us are ever going to understand the wipeout of an entire family. We have absolutely no clue at this point what precipitated it."

Piper said a relative called 911 around 6 a.m. to report a problem at the home. That person had been alerted by a phone call, but Piper is unsure who called the relative.

The house where the incident took place is located in the 5500 block of Old Atlanta Road near Suwanee.

Authorities said deputies had visited the home on a domestic violence call Tuesday night.

Maj. Rick Doyle of the sheriff's office said Wednesday that when police arrived on Tuesday night, everyone at the house was uncooperative and there were no signs of any physical altercation.

Doyle was not sure who called police. He said there were indications that Matthew Fields and Rebecca Manning were having relationship troubles. Fields was not at the home when deputies arrived Tuesday night.

Associated Press contributed to this story.
