GAINESVILLE — A boater had a rough outing on Lake Lanier Friday morning when his boat and his vehicle ended up in the water.
Trooper First Class Jordan Stamey with the Georgia State Patrol said it appears the driver of the passenger bus was trying to back the boat into the lake at the Duckett Mill boat ramp.
"Well, I don't know if he had a vehicle malfunction mechanically or what, but the vehicle continued in reverse into the water," said Stamey.
Because the vehicle was submerged, a tow truck had to be called to pull it out of the water. Private divers assisted a tow truck in getting the vehicle out of the water.
"They're going to go down and inspect the vehicle and assess what they've got and hook up the cable for the tow truck and work on getting it removed from the lake," said Stamey.
Hall County authorities said the boater had converted the passenger bus into a customized camper, and that's why he was using it to pull the boat.
Nobody was hurt in the incident, according to Stamey.
