GAINESVILLE - Hall County Fire Services will host firefighters from across the country next month as they compete in the Scott's Firefighter Combat Challenge.

The challenge is a competitive event in which firefighters simulate the physical demands of real-life firefighting. Wearing full gear and breathing apparatus, pairs of competitors race head-to-head as they replicate the physical demands of real-life firefighting by performing a series of five tasks, including climbing a 5-story tower, hoisting, chopping, dragging hoses and rescuing a life-sized, 175-pound dummy as they race against themselves, their opponent and the clock.

"We are honored to host this event for the first time, and we look forward to the opportunity to demonstrate the profession's rigors to the public," said Hall County Fire Chief Jeff Hood.

The events will take place on Friday, Aug. 14 beginning at 5 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 15 starting at 10 a.m. The competition, which is open to the public, will be held at Stonebridge Village, located at 5855 Spout Springs Road in Flowery Branch.

Proceeds from the challenge will benefit the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation. More information can be found at www.firefighterchallenge.com. Anyone seeking sponsorship information is asked to email [email protected]
