Emily Vinson House competed in her first power lifting competition called Powerlifting for Pups in Atlanta on Saturday. This was a meet where she could qualify for the National Championships. In order for her to qualify for the national championships, she needed to lift a total of 570lbs spread across three exercises – Squat, Bench press, and Dead Lift.
She competed in the 150lbs weight class against many other women from the surrounding area. Her stats for each lift are as follows: Squat: 275lbs, Bench Press: 210, and Dead lift: 391lbs for a total of 876lbs. Nationals will be held this October in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
House has been an athlete for her entire life and has spent the majority of her athletic career in Sprint Kayaking where she was able to attain numerous local and national titles. Emily spent many years on the USA National Team for sprint kayaking and competed in numerous world cups and world championships around the world.
After retiring from sprint kayaking, Emily has since started a family and career here in Gainesville. She is married to Morgan House and has a son, Liam. House is currently working at the Gainesville City School Systems as the Nutrition Coordinator where she plans all the menus for the GCSS.
While Emily is no longer paddling, she has remained very active in athletics over the years.
