Lawton Wofford: Gainesville native, former President of Ga. Poultry Federation dies

HIAWASSEE - A Gainesville native and former president of the Georgia Poultry Federation, Lawton Wofford, has died.

Wofford, who was 79 and lived in Hiawassee, worked in the poultry industry all his life, according to his obituary, and in addition to serving a president of the Georgia Poultry Federation, was recognized by the U.S. Poultry and Egg Association as a recipient of its Workhorse of the Year award.

He had been an active Rotary Club member for many years and had served in numerous club offices. Wofford received the Paul Harris Award, the highest honor a Rotarian can receive and was currently serving as the President of the Rotary Club of Lake Chatuge-Hiawassee.

Graveside services will be held Sunday afternoon at 3:00 at Yonah Memorial Gardens located next to Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, 245 Central Avenue, Demorest.
