GAINESVILLE — A Commerce man was the victim in a Friday-morning two-vehicle crash on Mt. Vernon Road in north Hall County.

Trooper First Class Jonathan Stamey with the Georgia State Patrol said it appears 70-year-old Randolph Taylor Evans pulled onto Mt. Vernon Road from Shirley Road and into the path of another vehicle.

"The deceased, it was 100-percent his fault," said Stamey. "There's the nothing the other fella would have done or could have done or should have done. He tried to slow to avoid."

Stamey said the driver of the other vehicle was a senior on his way to North Hall High School. He said the student was not seriously injured and refused treatment at the scene. The student will not face any charges.

Stamey said the investigation into the accident continues, mainly because witnesses told troopers that Evans had a front seat passenger in his vehicle. That person fled the scene of the crash.

"As of right now, we believe it to be a young white male...early to mid 20s," said Stamey.

The fatal accident occurred just before 8 a.m.
