GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville Planning and Appeals Board is scheduled to hear two requests October 13 involving plans for new businesses.

The board has a hearing scheduled on a Special Use Request from Gipco Southern, Inc., as part of its plans to renovate the old Yonah Burger building in the 1100 block of Thompson Bridge Road and locate a Dunkin' Donuts there.

The new restaurant would include a drive-thru window.  In 2010 when Yonah Burger was finalizing plans for opening, it received Special Use approval for a drive-thru.  As a condition to that approval, city officials said they would require another public hearing if plans for any new restaurant at that address included a drive-thru.

Also, at the Oct. 13 meeting, the planning and appeals board is expected to again discuss plans for a convenience store on Shallowford Road at Hillcrest Avenue.

Greg Sistrunk (Greenberg Farrow) is asking for a reduced front yard variance (35 feet as opposed to 40) in order to construct a canopy for gas pumps.

The board tabled the request September 8 so the applicant could re-evaluate the proposed use to see if the number of fuel pumps could be reduced and the size of the proposed fuel pump canopy reduced.

The original proposal calls for eight fuel pumps and twelve fueling locations.  The city planning staff recommended conditional approval of the request but suggested no more than four fuel pumps and eight fueling stations.
