GAINESVILLE — Hall County officials have reported the seventh rabies case in the county for 2015.
A pet dog recently came into contact with a rabid skunk in the Belmont Highway area of east Hall County. The skunk was shipped to the Georgia Public Health Lab- Virology Section in Decatur, and Hall County Animal Control got confirmation Tuesday that the skunk tested positive for rabies.
Positive alert signs have been posted in the area where the rabid skunk was located. Animal Control is asking residents who live in the area to contact them at 770-531-6830 if they see an animal behaving abnormally. Hall County Dispatch can also take calls at 770-536-8812 during non-working hours.
In addition, animal owners are encouraged to vaccinate their domesticated pets for rabies. Vaccines are available at the Hall County Animal Shelter for $10 Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1688 Barber Road, Gainesville.
