SAUTEE — A discarded cigarette started a fire that resulted in some damage to a home in White County Monday afternoon.

Several fire units originally were dispatched to 1271 Panorama Drive in Sautee around 1:20 p.m.

White County Public Safety Director David Murphy said  a man tossed a cigarette by accident into some leaves and it caught the leaves on fire, which then spread to a nearby deck.

Murphy described where the damage occurred.

"The deck area and some of the vinyl siding on the front of the house, it got pretty hot there," Murphy said, noting the wind helped spread the fire.

No one was injured and most responding units were canceled after the first units on scene were able to control the fire.
