Hall County School System officials are challenging students in the district to create videos that show the dangers of distracted driving.
School Superintendent Will Schofield said the competition was announced to students Tuesday, the first day back to school after the winter break, and they hope the 60-90 second videos will create a conversation among students.
"We hope that kids pay a lot more attention - and maybe their parents, as well - to putting those cell phones away while they're driving down the road," said Schofield.
The BOE decided to issue the challenge after state officials announced a 17% increase in driving fatalities in 2015; many of those deaths were attributed to distracted driving.
Schofield said the Board will award the creators of the top six videos with a $100 prize. In addition, the top videos will be showcased on the Hall County School district website.
