ACWORTH, Ga. (AP) The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says a man found shot to death along Interstate 75 in suburban Atlanta was the victim of a kidnapping in the north Georgia town of Emerson, several miles northwest of where his body was found.

GBI spokesman Scott Dutton identified the victim as 49-year-old Herbert Perkinson of Emerson.

Authorities say the ordeal began with an armed robbery and Perkinson's kidnapping from an Emerson residence before dawn Sunday.

Cherokee Sheriff's Department Lt. Jay Baker said Perkinson's body was found shortly before 6 a.m. Sunday, just north of the Cobb-Cherokee county line.

Dutton said a passerby discovered the body, which had a gunshot wound to the torso. He said the body was discovered about an hour after the robbery and kidnapping.

Dutton said the investigation remained ``active and ongoing.''
