CUMMING, Ga. (AP) The deputy hailed for getting in between a heavily armed Cumming man and the courthouse he intended to seize has returned to work, a year and a half after the incident.
Forsyth County Sheriff Duane Piper announced on his department's Facebook page Monday that Deputy Daniel Rush has returned to full duty.
Authorities say Dennis Marx arrived outside the Forsyth County courthouse in June 2014 with an assault rifle, explosives and supplies to take hostages.
Piper said at the time, Rush saved many lives by engaging Marx, who shot the deputy through the windshield. Marx was pronounced dead at the scene after a gunfight ensued.
Rush was shot in the leg and required multiple surgeries and a prolonged rehabilitation process.
