GAINESVILLE — Chestatee may have lost the battle Friday night in a 47-14 loss to Marist in its Region 7-AAAA season finale at War Eagle Stadium.
But it won the playoff war when West Hall knocked off White County 35-14 clinching the final playoff spot for the War Eagles. Chestatee beat White County 27-21 last week to earn the head-to-head tiebreaker.
Chestatee (4-6, 1-3 Region 7-AAAA) never led against Marist (6-3, 2-1) falling behind 13-0 in the first quarter. Chestatee pulled within 13-6 on a 74-yard touchdown pass from Storm Yarbrough to Baylee Camp.
Marist opened up a 26-6 halftime lead with 13 second quarter points as part of a 27-point unanswered explosion into the fourth quarter for a 40-6 lead.
Reggie James scored on a 1-yard run for Chestatee to cut it to the final score.
Yarbrough had a rough night against a tough Marist defense going just 8-for-29 for 141 yards and two interceptions. Camp finished with 113 yards receiving for the War Eagles.
