Posted 7:06AM on Wednesday 21st December 2016 ( 7 years ago )

A convoy of law enforcement and public safety vehicles from two states heralded the release of a wounded Lavonia police officer from a South Carolina hospital Tuesday afternoon.

Capt. Michael Schulman, 50, was released and able to return to his home in time for Christmas.

Traffic on Interstate 85 slowed as the caravan, with emergency lights activated, made its way into Georgia.

Schulman and officer Jeffery Martin were shot during a traffic stop at Zaxby's in Lavonia on Monday night, Dec. 12.

Martin underwent surgery last week to remove a bullet from his hand.
