After spending an unprecedented 52 years on the job at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Betty Toney has retired.

According to NGHS officials, Toney has worked at the hospital longer than any other employee on staff.

Toney was honored two years ago on the 50th anniversary of her employment, and hospital officials at that time recounted her years of service.

"Betty Toney took a job as a ward secretary with Hall County Hospital in November 1963 – just 12 years after the hospital opened its doors.  Over time, her desire to learn and master new skills landed her in the admissions department, now known as Patient Access. She remained there for 44 years, until she became an outpatient registrar in 2010."

Toney was honored at a reception Wednesday afternoon at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center's Gainesville campus.
