Even though the national commemoration of Arbor Day comes in April, the state of Georgia likes to get a jump on celebrating all that is good about trees, so Georgia Arbor Day always falls on the third Friday in February.

Officials with Gainesville and Hall County celebrated the event at Elachee Nature Science Center with a joint proclamation. (Gainesville, by the way, has been designated a Tree City USA for 29 years!) Local 3rd and 5th graders participated again in an annual art and essay contest, and the winners made presentations at the Friday morning program.

AccessWDUN's David Cook spent some time at Elachee with the participants. Enjoy his video!
