The combination of saturated ground and windy weather has made for a busy day for Jackson EMC crews.

Linemen have spent most of the day working to restore power across the region following a second line of strong storms that hit the service area between 9 a.m. and noon Wednesday.

Jackson EMC spokeswoman Bonnie Jones said a total of 8,800 customers in the cooperative's service hour were without power at some point during the morning. She outlined the outages during the three-hour time frame as follows:

Jackson, Banks, Barrow Counties - outages peaked around 11 a.m. with 3,700 customers out of power

Gwinnett County -  outages peaked around noon with 2,800 customers out of power

Hall and Lumpkin Counties -   outages peaked at 8:30 a.m. with 2,100 customers out of power

Madison County -  outages peaked between 9 and 10 a.m. with 200 customers out of power

Jones said the power issues may not be over just yet.

"We anticipate that this will be a fluid situation until strong winds associated with this system die down," Jones said.
