A Flowery Branch man is in jail on multiple charges following a chase with law enforcement late Tuesday night.

Flowery Branch Police Chief David Spillers said Officer Denton Vaughn was on patrol at 9:47 p.m. when he noticed a vehicle traveling near the intersection of Atlanta Highway and Phil Neikro Boulevard. Spillers said the officer was able to determine the vehicle had been stolen in Barrow County, so he turned on the blue lights in his patrol car in order to stop the suspect.

When the lights were activated, said Spillers, that's when the suspect fled.

The suspect, Stephen Vance Teal, 46, drove the stolen vehicle along Atlanta Highway, west up Chattahoochee Street and then south along Gainesville Street, eventually abandoning the vehicle in a wooded area behind his home on Gainesville Street. Spillers said Teal was arrested a few minutes later on Morrow Drive.

Teal is in the Hall County Jail, charged with fleeing and attempting to elude, theft by receiving a stolen motor vehicle and a number of other related traffic offenses.

Spillers said the Hall County Sheriff's Office assisted in the search for the suspect.
