VIDEO: Johnson ties Earnhardt, Sr. with Atlanta victory

Posted 3:00PM on Wednesday 2nd March 2016 ( 9 years ago )

Sunday’s Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway was the kind of race that fans and drivers alike had asked for for years – one that put the emphasis on the talent of the driver.

That’s just what they got, as Jimmie Johnson scored the win after Kevin Harvick spun his tires on the final restart during overtime.  That gave Johnson the lead, and when a crash occurred on the backstretch after Johnson passed the Overtime Line, the next flag ended the race.  Johnson was first to the finish line, scoring the victory at Atlanta for the second straight year.

It’s Johnson’s 76th career victory, tying him with the late Dale Earnhardt, Sr. for seventh on the all-time win list.  Johnson talked to the media afterwards, said tying the “Intimidator” is an honor.  We also heard from second place finisher Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and eight place finisher Chase Elliott.

Now the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Xfinity Series head west, as both series will compete this weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

WDUN will have complete PRN Radio coverage of this weekend’s NASCAR action at Las Vegas, beginning with Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series Boyd Gaming 300 at 3:30 pm on 102.9 FM and 550 AM.  Racing continues on Sunday with the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Kobalt 400 beginning at 2:30 on 102.9 FM and 550 AM.
