Dr. James Mellichamp, president and a professor of music at Piedmont College, will present an organ concert titled “Those Romantics—and Post-Romantics” at 4 p.m., Sunday, April 3, 2016, in the Piedmont College Chapel in Demorest.

The free concert will feature works by American, British and French composers from the 19th through the 21st century, including Ernest Thomlinson, Percy Whitlock, Craig Phillips, Phillip James, Everette Titcomb, Gabriel Pierné and Louis Vierne.

Mellichamp will perform on the college’s Sewell Pipe Organ, constructed in 2002 by Casavant Freres of Ste. Hyacinthe, Quebec. The organ features some 3,691 pipes and was designed by Mellichamp and Casavant to emulate a variety of organ styles, including French, English and German.

Originally from Toccoa, Dr. Mellichamp’s concert career spans more than 40 years, and he has made appearances as an organist throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe. His concerts include solo recitals at such notable venues as the Washington Cathedral, Berlin Cathedral, and the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris.

In July 2016, he will perform at London’s Westminster Abbey.
