Authorities have released the name of the 4-year-old child who drowned at an apartment complex swimming pool in Duluth this past Friday.
Gwinnett County Police said Precieus Basulama was found floating face down in the pool at the Landmark at Bella Vista Apartment complex on Satellite Boulevard on Friday afternoon just before 4:30 p.m.
Initial reports indicated the child was eating in the kitchen when he ran from his mother. She thought he had run to a bedroom and looked for him there and in other parts of the apartment with no results. The mother told officers she then called for other family members and the apartment complex manager to assist her in trying to find him.
The child's uncle apparently spotted him in the swimming pool and pulled him from the water; officers said he was performing CPR on the child on the deck of the pool. The officer assisted and then turned the operation over to EMTs once they got to the scene.
The boy was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Officers have been reviewing surveillance footage of the pool to determine how the child might have gotten into the fenced area. The responding officer said all the gates to the pool were sealed with a chain. In the gate facing west, the officer found a gate that was missing one of the bars, although investigators are not certain if that's how the child got into the fence.
