A power transformer was damaged Tuesday morning, resulting in the closing of Adams' Foods IGA store in Cleveland for several hours.
Cleveland Fire Chief Ricky Pruitt said they received a call about a truck hitting a transformer at the store around 11:20 a.m. Upon arrival, Pruitt said authorities discovered a large transformer outside the building had been struck, suffering significant damage in the process.
The power to the building was shut off and the store evacuated while authorities contacted Georgia Power.
Store owner Greg Adams, noting that the store re-opened at 3 p.m., said he appreciated not only the quick work by Georgia Power crews, but also his customers for understanding the necessity of the closure.
No injuries were reported.
