The Hall County Tax Assessors Office Friday mailed property assessment notices to all owners of real estate in the county - land and any improvements made to it. This annual notice includes a written explanation of the value of taxable property and an estimate of the property tax bill.
The assessment notice is not a tax bill. The estimate of taxes on the notice is based on the current year's assessed value and the previous year's tax rate. The 2016 property tax rate will not be determined until it is approved by the various local governing authorities.
Property owners will have 45 days from the date of the notice to file an appeal. Appeal information, interactive appeal forms and FAQs can be found on the Tax Assessor's website here. While the actual estimate of tax cannot be appealed property owners have until May 31 to appeal the property valuation based on value, uniformity, or taxability.
Two years ago, the assessment notices touched off a major uproar because of the higher valulations, especially of property fronting on Lake Lanier. (Click here http://accesswdun.com/article/2014/6/276524 for earlier story.)
The Tax Assessors' office is prepared to answer questions about the notices or the appeal process through e-mail at [email protected], by phone at 770-531-6720, or in person at the Hall County Government Center, 2875 Browns Bridge Road.
