DECATUR, Ga. (AP) — Prosecutors say a man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison to shooting a 2-year-old boy outside a suburban Atlanta grocery store in 2013.

DeKalb County District Attorney Robert James says 25-year-old Chazrel Burton pleaded guilty Friday to shooting toddler Evan Harrison outside a Kroger near Stone Mountain. Burton will serve 25 years of his sentence in prison and the remaining on probation.

James says Harrison's father, Jermaine Harrison, confronted Burton as he robbed someone outside the store. After the altercation, Harrison left Burton and returned to his car with his wife and son.

Surveillance video from Kroger showed Burton walk past the Harrison's car, turned then opened fire from only a few feet away. James says Burton fired 15 rounds at the family's car before fleeing the area.
