Gainesville, Forsyth County teachers among ten finalists for state honor

Teachers with the Gainesville and Forsyth County school systems are among the ten finalists for Georgia's 2017 Teacher of the Year.

Heather McConnell is a special education teacher at Gainesville Middle School.  Marlo Miranda is an Automotive Technologies teacher at Forsyth Central High School.

McConnell and Miranda will join the other eight finalists at the Georgia Department of Education's state banquet in Atlanta in May for the award announcement. 

Sponsored by the Georgia Department of Education, Georgia's Teacher of the Year program annually spotlights the teaching profession and recognizes outstanding public school teachers at the local and state levels. The prestigious awards program focuses on honoring exceptional educators who pursue excellence in teaching while inspiring students of all backgrounds and abilities to learn and succeed within the classroom and beyond.

Heather McConnell, the District Teacher of the Year for Gainesville City Schools, has been named a finalist for the State TOTY honor.
