Several schools in the north Gwinnett County area were placed on voluntary lockdown during the noon hour Wednesday as police searched for a theft suspect.

Just after 12 p.m., Gwinnett County police announced that officers were searching for a black male suspect with dreadlocks in connection with a motor vehicle theft in the area of Collins Hills Road and Camp Perrin Road.  The suspect was said to be wearing a grey shirt, black pants, red shoes and a ball cap.

Initially, Collins Hill High School and Walnut Grove Elementary School were on lockdown. A few minutes later, school officials locked down Taylor, Woodward Mill and Creekland elementary schools.

Police did not immediately release details in the theft case.
