FLOWERY BRANCH - The Flowery Branch City Council has agreed to pay part of the cost of a new traffic signal on Spout Springs Road.

The signal, which has already been approved by the Hall County Commission, will be placed at the intersection of Spout Springs Road and Lake Sterling Boulevard at the busy entrance to the Sterling on the Lake subdivision.

City Manager Bill Andrew said at the council's Thursday night meeting the intersection itself sits just outside of the Flowery Branch limits, but the county is asking the city pay $33,133 for installation because the city does encompass both Lake Sterling Boulevard and much of Spout Springs Road.

Andrew said the signal will serve as a quick fix for the area, as the county prepares to widen Spout Springs Road and eventually relocate Elizabeth Lane to meet Lake Sterling Boulevard to form a four-way intersection. He said it is unclear when the traffic light will be installed.

"I talked to the traffic engineer at the county this week and he indicated that they are already working through some design issues," Andrew said. "They are concerned that they may not make the deadline of getting this operational by the time school starts, but that is their goal."

The city council voted unanimously to enter an agreement with both the Hall County government and Looper Lake LLC to split the cost of the signal.
