State Representative Lee Hawkins (R-Gainesville) recently was appointed to serve on the Georgia State Legislature's Joint Music Economic Development Study Committee.
“The goal of this committee will be to retain and promote Georgia’s music industry by creating a business climate similar to the one established for Georgia’s film industry,” said Hawkins.
“In 2008, the music industry was a $3.9 billion business in Georgia, while film was a $3.7 billion business. Since then, Georgia created incentives for local film production, and the economic impact generated from film production, revenue and the related job creation has been tremendous."
The 13 member study committee was created by Senate Resolution 1027 and will study economic impact of the music industry in Georgia and ways to measure, expand and promote the music economy statewide and foster integration with other creative industries including film, digital media and gaming.
House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) appointed Hawkins to the committee.
