ATLANTA (AP) Atlanta police and other emergency responders are planning to have an increased presence at numerous events throughout the holiday weekend, including the annual Peachtree Road Race.

The Atlanta Police Department said in a news release Thursday that law enforcement officers will have a large presence at Monday morning's race and at evening firework displays at Centennial Olympic Park and Lenox Square.

The Peachtree Road Race, which ends in Piedmont Park, is expected to feature about 60,000 participants. Authorities are urging spectators to not bring backpacks to the race and other Fourth of July events.

FBI spokesman Stephen Emmett tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (http://bit.ly/29weySA ) that no direct threats toward any local events have been identified. He says the public should be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to authorities.
