When the rain finally fell Wednesday, it fell hard, and it brought enough wind with it to cause some problems, too.
Jackson EMC reported about 3,000 power outages just before 2:30 p.m. By 4 p.m., the outages had reduced to 27 individual outages affecting 143 people.
Company spokeswoman Bonnie Jones said most of the outages were scattered, rather than the result of large circuits being down.
Jones said the outages were in Jackson, Barrow, Banks, Gwinnett, Hall and Lumpkin counties. Larger concentrations of outages were reported around Winder and the Winder Airport in Barrow County; around Boggs Road to Old Norcross Road and Cruse Road to Club Drive in Gwinnett; and around an area east of Flowery Branch as well as Roy Parks Road to Hwy. 129 in Hall County.
In addition, Jackson EMC was having problems with its outage map. That was fixed by 3 p.m.
Gwinnett County Fire Department officials reported their crews responded to 50 calls for service that range from wires down, fallen trees, woods/grass fires and reported structure fires. No storm-related injuries were reported as of 5 p.m., however several homes did suffer damage from falling trees and commuters were delayed due to several trees and powerlines down in Gwinnett roadways.
UPDATE -- As of 8:00 p.m. Jones said Jackson EMC had only 7 customers without power, all of which were in Hall County.
