CLEVELAND — A White County nursing care facility was evacuated after a small fire was discovered Sunday afternoon.

A fire in the utility room at Gateway Healthcare south of Cleveland prompted the evacuation of residents.

White County Public Safety Director David Murphy said 9-1-1 dispatch was notified of the just before 2 p,m. Sunday.   While fire units were responding from Stations 4, 5, 2 and City of Cleveland on mutual aid, healthcare staff were evacuating the facility.

Upon arrival of  fire personnel, it was determined the fire had been extinguished by staff at the facility and was contained to one of the water heaters, Murphy said. The building sustained some smoke damage within the utility area. While firefighters were on scene they checked for any extensions into the building and found none.

Facility staff, with assistance from White County Emergency Medical Services crews, moved residents back into the facility after the "all clear" had been given by the fire department.
