Lanier Technical College announced last week that it has been awarded the first-place prize in a social media competition sponsored by AT&T.

The "$20k for 2020" contest saw the Lanier Technical College Foundation square-off against six other Georgia-based organizations in generating "social media activity in support of their work in the community," according to a media release from AT&T's Corporate Communications division.

The release described the Lanier Technical College Foundation as an organization that "supports the goals of Lanier Technical College - the foremost workforce development resource for Banks, Barrow, Dawson, Forsyth, Hall, Jackson, and Lumpkin counties."

Ray Perren, President of Lanier Tech., said the attention generated by the contest not only helped win the competition, but also spread awareness about the college that should pay dividends in the future.

"We were thrilled to participate in AT&T's $20k for 2020 competition, and we were so happy to see the support from the community throughout the contest," he said.  "We appreciate all opportunities to tell our story and highlight the successes of our students and staff, and this competition allowed our story to generate even greater levels of support to spur future successes through our workforce development program."

Georgia was recently named the best state in which to do business, and AT&T said the competition was "designed to highlight organizations that are engaged in education and workforce development efforts around" the state.
