The City of Commerce is looking to hire a new police chief, following this week's resignation of Brandon Sellers.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports Sellers tendered his resignation on Wednesday. He will stay on the job until September 9.

The newspaper reported the chief has been out of the office since last month, following a domestic dispute at his home on July 20. Jackson County authorities did not report any charges in the incident, according to the newspaper. Sellers apparently took vacation time and then attended a convention as well as a training event.

Sellers took the job in Commerce almost a year ago, following a stint as the police chief for the city of Alma.

Commerce city officials told the newspaper it would take 60 to 90 days to hire a new chief.
