Syfan Transport, Gainesville First United Methodist Church and local community businesses, schools and churches will be collecting donations for Louisiana flood victims through Tuesday, September 6. Donations may be dropped off at the Syfan trailer in the front parking lot of Gainesville First United Methodist Church at 2780 Thompson Bridge Road in Gainesville.
Organizers say the following items will be put to good use in the Baton Rouge area where tens of thousands of people have been displaced by massive floods that hit the area in August.
The following items are those that are needed most:
Household items:
- Heavy duty contractor trash bags
- Mops
- Hygiene items (toiletries, feminine hygiene products)
- Baby items (diapers, wipes, formula, baby food)
- Pet food
- Plastic Rubbermaid containers
- Tarps
- Cleaning supplies (bleach, cleaners in spray bottles, sponges)
- Paper products (paper towels, toilet paper)
- Garbage cans
- Garden sprayers (pressurized sprayers for cleaning, not the attachment for a hose)
Supplies for work sites:
- Wheelbarrows
- Push brooms
- Garbage cans
- Contractor bags
- Box fans
- Shovels
- Gloves (work gloves, garden gloves, plastic gloves)
- Masks
- Mold killer (not bleach, but there is stuff out there to kill mold),
- Pressurized sprayers (like the one you pump up and spray pesticides with)
- Utility knives to cut sheetrock
- Crowbars and Wonderbars
- 5 gallon buckets to put tools in
- Hammers
- Push brooms
- Safety glasses
Syfan Transport has donated the use of a truck and trailer to transport all the items collected and with volunteers in Louisiana will have them distributed to those in need.
