A commercial fire southwest of Winder heavily damaged a building and several vehicles Monday night.

Barrow County firefighters were dispatched to Tucker Court near Ga. 316 just before 10 p.m., where, upon arrival, they discovered heavy smoke emanating from a commercial structure.

Barrow County Emergency Services Cpt. Scott Dakin said firefighters preparing to make entry into the building then found more smoke pouring through a "roll-up" door.

"The door had popped off its track, also, due to the heat and smoke build up. Crews made entry into the structure and found several vehicles on fire," he continued. "Crews quickly brought the fire under control."

Dakin said crews then began to ventilate the building, all while continuing to ensure that the fire was completely extinguished.

He added that the fire caused a heavy amount of damage to the building and its contents.

The fire heavily damaged three vehicles and the heat damaged several others," he said. "The remainder of the structure and its contents was also heavily damaged by the smoke caused by the fire."

The fire is now under investigation by the Fire Investigation Team.
