UPDATE: Suspect arrested, victim critical in Lawrenceville shooting

It turns out a traffic slowdown on Ga. 316 at Collins Hill Road Monday morning was related to a domestic dispute at a nearby apartment complex.

Gwinnett County Police said in a press release they are investigating a domestic-related shooting incident involving three people that started shortly before 8 a.m. at Madison at River Sound Apartments at 980 Walther Blvd in Lawrenceville.

A neighbor called police when he heard a fight happening in a neighborhing apartment. When officers arrived they found an injured man who claimed to have been pistol whipped by his roomate; the suspect apparently fled the scene with a woman in an SUV.

The injured man said he jumped from a second floor balcony to escape.

Police were able to pull the suspect vehicleo ver on Ga. 316, and found the female passenger with a gun shot wound to the head. She's listed in critical condition at Gwinnett Medical Center.

Authorities believe she was shot inside the SUV.

The suspect was taken into custody, and investigators are still trying to determine the relationship between the three parties involved.

Names and charges are expected to be released later on Tuesday.
