Friendship Elementary School is to receive the national ACE Award (Aerospace Connections in Education) from the Civil Air Patrol and U.S. Air Force.

The award cites Friendship as the top school in the county for its efforts in teaching Aerospace Education in conjunction with other STEM programs. Teachers receive hands on STEM kits and premade lesson plans from the CAP and the Air Force at no cost.  According to a news release from CAP, the program at Friendship has been so successful that every teacher in the school has been involved in teaching STEM activities.

As part of a celebration of this achievement, Will Schofield, Hall County Superintendant of Schools, will host a flyover at 9:00  on Oct. 20 in a Civil Air Patrol aircraft.

The entire day's schedule is as follows:

8:30  Present Colors/Introductions/Welcome

8:45  National Headquarters Civil Air Patrol representative

8:55  Principal Dr. Tracie Brack

9:00  Flyover by Superintendant of Schools, Will Schofield, in a CAP aircraft

9:15  Helicopter tours begin (possible hot air balloon tours also dependent upon weather conditions)

Also during the day, students will be completing STEM assignments in their classrooms.

The event is open to the public.
