Three teenagers were killed and one was critically injured in a traffic accident on Steve Reynolds Blvd. in Norcross Friday night, according to the Gwinnett County Police Department.

A press statement from police said the teens were leaving a football game at Meadowcreek High School when the accident happened.

Authorities responded to the scene at 10:16 p.m.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a Toyota 4 Runner being driven by Brandon Martinez, 18, was traveling south on Steve Reynolds Boulevard in the left lane after leaving the football game.

"The vehicle was traveling in the left lane as it approached a slower traveling vehicle. Based on witness accounts and evidence collected on scene, it was determined that Martinez swerved to the right to avoid a collision, and lost control of the vehicle," the statement read.

Martinez is believed to have veered to the right. His vehicle then went airborne after striking a guardrail, then colliding with a tree.

Martinez was killed in the crash as were two of his passengers - Nelson Umanzor, 18, and Naseer Alwakeel, 16. Police said the fourth passenger, Mesiah Allen, 17, remained in critical condition at Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville.

Investigators said they are looking at speed as a contributing factor in the deadly crash.
