CLEVELAND — The Cleveland City Council has agreed to purchase a replacement ladder truck for the city's fire department.
The current 75-foot ladder truck needs numerous repairs that could cost up to $150,000, so the council agreed to purchase a used 105-foot ladder truck at a cost of $96,000.
Monday night’s council’s decision came following the recommendations of Cleveland Fire Chief Ricky Pruitt and City Administrator Tom O’Bryant.
O’Bryant told the council that the used truck should provide service for up to 10 years, during which time he said city officials can work on a long0term capital equipment program.
The replacement truck will be purchased from a Cobb County company and, according to Pruitt, will better serve the city’s needs.
“It will help in a couple of ways,” Pruitt said. “The ladder will actually be longer, and it will be a lot more reliable vehicle that we’ve got now — and parts are readily available.”
Pruitt said the department hopes to have the truck in service within a couple of weeks, possible a little longer due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
