A memorial service will be held Saturday in Gainesville for Adelaide Norton, one of the driving forces in getting Green Street named to the National Register of Historic Places.
Norton, who was 96, died earlier this week.
For her efforts in placing Green Street on the National Register, she was selected Woman of the Year by the Gainesville Rotary Club.
Norton's other contributions to the community include: volunteering with the Red Cross, the Junior League, the Hospital Auxiliary (where she was President) and serving as the first Volunteer Director for Hall County Hospital (now Northeast Georgia Medical Center). She later served as the Woman’s Editor of the now-defunct Gainesville Tribune and was active in the Hall County Historical Society and the Quinlan Art Association.
The memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church Saturday at 1:00.
