Investigators are working to determine the cause of two house fires in Barrow County this past Saturday.

Barrow County Emergency Services Capt. Scott Dakin said in a news release that the first fire was reported just after 1 a.m. Saturday when a passerby called 911 about a fire at a house in the area of Platte Street and Bismark Circle off Double Bridges Road in Winder.

"The first arriving units reported heavy fire coming from the roof and back of the single story home, and part of the roof had collapsed," Dakin said. "Due to the large amount of fire involvement, the decision was made to attack the fire from outside of the residence."

Dakin said no residents were home at the time of the fire.

The second fire occurred just after 4 p.m. Saturday in the 300 block of Carter Road in Auburn.

"Citizens on the scene originally reported that there were possibly children still in the home,” Dakin said. “After knocking the fire back crews made entry in to the home in an effort to search the home. It was later determined that all residents were not home at the time of the fire.”

The home was destroyed as a result of the fire.

Dakin said the American Red Cross responded to assist the two adults and four children who were displaced.

This home on Bismark Circle in Winder caught fire in the early morning hours Saturday, according to Barrow County Emergency Services officials.
