The driver of a tractor trailer carrying empty poultry crates was injured when the rig overturned on I-85 northbound in the Buford area early Tuesday morning.

The Gwinnett County Fire Department sent emergency crews to the scene north of Hamilton Mill Road at 5:09 a.m.

When they arrived, crews found the flatbed tractor trailer off the roadway and into the wood line.

"The truck was partially on its side and both saddle fuel tanks were torn from the side of the vehicle," said Capt. Tommy Rutledge in a press statement. "The driver of the truck was assisted out of the cab by firefighters and was conscious."

Rutledge described the driver's injuries as "moderate." He was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville for treatment. The driver's name was not released.

No other vehicles were involved.
