A wreck at Banks Crossing seriously injured a Maysville man Saturday morning.
The wreck was reported at 10:48 a.m. on Ga. 15 (U.S. 441) northbound just north of Steven B. Tanger Boulevard.
A 2004 Suzuki VL-800 motorcycle operated by Dylan Jackson, 24, of Maysville was traveling north on Ga. 15 in the left northbound lane, said Sgt. Auston Allen of Georgia State Patrol Post 6 in Gainesville.
As the motorcycle approached, a 2007 Mercury Mariner driven by Kenneth Wilbanks, 79, of Jefferson, began to turn left from the exit of McDonald's onto Ga. 15 and struck the side of the motorcycle, including Jackson's right leg, with the Mariner's front end, Allen said.
After impact, the motorcycle overturned, and Jackson suffered incapacitating lower extremity injuries to his right leg.
Jackson was transported by Banks County EMS to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Neither Wilbanks nor his passenger, 74-year-old Shirley Wilbanks of Jefferson, was injured.
Kenneth Wilbanks was cited for failure to yield when entering or crossing a roadway, Allen said.
Alcohol was not suspected to involved in any party, Allen said.
Banks County Sheriff's Office officials say new equipment carried by deputies and recent training allowed Sgt. Jody Milford to provide immediate aid to Jackson by applying a tourniquet to his leg.
"We're extremely grateful to Webbs Creek Baptist Church for providing the funds to be able to purchase the tourniquets, and to be able to use that within just a couple of months to be able to save someone's life is just invaluable," said Chief Deputy Shawn Wilson.
