Gwinnett Police have identified the 2-year-old boy that was killed following the attack at a Buford home Sunday as Cole Nation.

His mother, Natalie Nation, 30, was in critical condition after the attack and later died.

Gwinnett County police announced the boy's identity in a release at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday; the woman's death was announced in a 9:43 a.m. press release Monday.

Earlier Monday morning, authorities had announced charges against the Buford man suspected in the Sunday night attack.

Brandon Williams, 32, has been charged with one count of felony murder and two counts of aggravated assault. Those charges will be upgraded now that the mother has died. Police said in an update Monday morning that Williams has been transported to the Gwinnett County Detention Center where he will remain without bond.

Gwinnett County police said the assault happened at a home located at 2751 Tybee Drive.

The owner of the house called 911 around 11 p.m. to report his son has choked mother and child and then walked up the street to a gas station. Police found the suspect at that gas station and arrested him without incident.

The homeowner told detectives the Nations had been renting a room at the house. The victims and the suspect had no family ties, according to police.

There's no known motive at this point.
